Kerala – God’s own country, is one of the most beautiful places I have seen yet. Kerala is a land of backwaters.
I went for a family trip in Oct’11 and booked my trip through Kerala House in Delhi. As trip was booked through them I didn’t have to bother too much about the trip. However, few people I know went to Kerala before me gave a thumbs down for the place but my experience was way different.
We have planned a trip for Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey and last was Kovalam.
The trip was well planned by the Kerala House. After we landed in Kochi, there was a person to receive us and taxi was waiting. The taxi was hired for the entire trip of 5 days and we would use same taxi to travel all the places.
From Kochi we went to Munnar. The drive from Kochi to Munnar is around 4 hours. Munnar is famous for its tea estates and we drove right through the tea estates. We reached our hotel Munnar Tea Country Resort by afternoon and completed the check-in process. That day we spent in resort because as per our travel plan the next day was scheduled for site-seeing.
After completing the trip we came back to the taxi and went to Mattupetty Dam. It is the most visited tourist place in Munnar.
Post that we went to Blossom International Park. It offers an array of facilities for the visitors to make their trip memorable. There are many recreation options in this park. Visitors can indulge in badminton, roller skating and boating at this park. They also love to enjoy bird watching and nature walks during their visit to this picnic spot.
After that in evening we came back to resort.
Next day traveled from Munnar to Thekkady. The drive from Munnar to Thekkady is around 3.5 hours. We stayed at Aranya Nivas. The place was good to stay. After some time at the hotel we went to visit Periyar wildlife sanctuary and is a famous sanctuary in Kerala for preserving a lot of species of animals including elephants, tigers, rare lions etc. The forest is situated near the Periyar Lake. A bamboo rafting through the Periyar lake will help in enjoying the beauty of forest.
Next day we traveled from Thekkary to Alleppey and the drive is around 3.5 hours. It is a well known place among the tourists in terms of the backwaters, huge rice fields, etc. We stayed at houseboat of Lake Palace. We traveled on backwaters and stayed on the boat for the night and next day left for Kovalam.
The drive from Allepy to Kovalam is around 4 hours. The place is famous for beaches. At kovalam we stayed at Hotel Samudra. The hotel was walking distance from beach. We had great time there and then stayed at the hotel for the night.
Next day we had our flight back to Delhi from Thiruvananthapuram.
